One of the best things about running a rescue centre is when a pet is placed with its Forever Home. A place where they will be loved and cared for 'til the day they die.

Other successes: Pre-2005 / 2005 / 2007 / 2008

Rooney (January 2006)

Rooney now lives in Ammanford with his girlfriend Molly. He's a three-year-old blue buck with with an amazing story. He was handed in from a hawking centre. The lady who brought him cried as she explained someone had given them a litter of rabbits to feed to the birds. He was the only one they couldn't home. Rooney loves his run but escapes so often he should be called Houdini. Within the first week, he escaped from his hutch, evaded a search party, broke into a doe's cage, and became the father of five. He's since been neutered and the wild-boy lifestyle is a thing of the past. He's quieter and more loving. Well done, Rooney.

Jerri (March 2006) Jessie (was Pug) (September 2006)

When Georgina dropped in, she could name and tell the story of each bunny on the website - much to her husband's surprise - but there was one particular bunny that she fell in love with, Jerri. He's gone as a single bun for now, but they may be back for a girlfriend.

I understand Jerri's attraction. He's a beauty with VERY unusual colouring and is VERY active. He loves to run with a flowerpot on his head, which we managed to photograph. With the pot on his head, he'll run around 'til he makes himself dizzy.

Stop Press: Georgina called by, September, and Jerri has a girlfriend. She was with us as Pug but now she's called Jessie.

Latest News

March 2006 - "Jerri is very inquisitive. His favourite thing is to beat us to the couch when we come into the lounge."

April 2006 - "Jerri was castrated but leaping on the sofa within hours. We cracked toilet training. He waits 'til he's back in the utility room and uses his litter tray. He pokes his way into everything. Andy is enjoying the responsibility, they are becoming great friends."

September 2006 - "Here's Jerri and his girlfriend, Jessie. They get on well and are always near each other. Jessie cleans him and he loves the attention. In the third they are cuddled as close as they can get to each other ... bless. I'm not sure who's the boss, sometimes I think Jerri and then I see him nuzzle Jessie and I think she must be the boss - as it should be."

Bangers and Splash (March 2006)

Bangers and Splash are sisters, born in March 2005. They are lovely characters and very friendly. They're living with Peri and Poppy. We wish them happiness.

Introductions

Bertie and Oliver (March 2006)

Born 14th December 2005. A beautiful pair of brothers.

HP (March 2006)

HP was abandoned on the roadside in January 2006. He was a possibly Staff cross. We took him to his new owners and he was pretty chilled. He loved playing with the two girls and they allocated him some cuddly toys which he thought was great. Even though he cried when we left him, he settled quickly. He still stands on his paper and pees on the floor but he's learning. He's been for his first walks and walks well on the lead.

We'll miss him at the rescue but Sunday the chicken will be pleased he's gone as HP's favourite trick was to pull a feather out of her and bring it to me. Jo-jo will wonder why she's no longer used as a sofa, and Winnie will be glad to get her tail to herself again. Pommie will pout as there's one less dog to boss around.

Cinnamon and Treacle (April 2006)

Trinity and Penny have been re-homed. Here's an update from their owners. "Their new names are Cinnamon and Treacle. They've spent the last couple of hours exploring the run but I can't convince them to use the ramps yet. As they are at the bottom and the food is at the top, I'm sure they'll get the idea."

The site originally labelled Trinity a girl but it didn't prevent a visit to the vet for his 'snip'.

Arwen and Choccy (May 2006)

Arwen and Choccy were born in autumn, 2004. They are lops: a mini beige and dwarf Harlequin.

Honey and Duff (May 2006)

Duff is a neutered black lop cross, born 2002. He was nervous but calmed down, he loved to grunt as you put his food in. He'll make an ideal companion bunny for his new owners.

Honey is a beige doe with straight ears, born 2004. She lived indoors and out and loved company.

Hermoine (June 2006)

Hermoine is a five-year-old lion head lop. Her new companion bunny fell in love with her and when I reassured the new owners that she'd live another six to eight years they took her.

Age is an important point to bear in mind when considering a pet. Hutch-bound bunnies tend to have shorter lives than house rabbits or rabbits with access to pens but even hutch rabbits can live to their teens. Rabbits are a long-term commitment.

Tibbar (Bella) and Warren (June 2006)

Tibbar was paired with Warren when Scooby, her first mate, died October 2005. The two boys helped Tibbar cope with her shyness. Tibbar and Warren went to a couple in Aberdare. They live with Jessica and Lloyd, two other buns, and their owners sent these updates.

Latest News:

June 2006: "Just to let you know the bunnies have settled in. Tibbar has come out of her shell and she and Lloyd are in love, I think ... Have enclosed some photos of them in their Wendy house."

August 2006: "My bunnies are well and truly bonded! Tibbar has been renamed Bella. My elderly neighbour said she looked more like a Bella so I went with that!"

Gem and Blaize (June 2006)

Gem was born in 2001 and is a loving neutered male tabby cat. We called him Dribbly Lips because he dribbled when we scratched his ears. Blaze was born in 2002 and is a spayed female Tortoise Shell. She's the lighter of the two cats.

Pebbles (July 2006)

A striking example of an English Spot doe. Born in February of 2004. An entertaining bun, she loves toys and treats, but is not so fussed on a cuddle.

Latest News:

August 2006: "Initially, we kept her indoors to settle her in but she quickly decided to be a house rabbit and is at home in front of the TV. She's learning about litter trays and happily goes down her ramp but getting her back for bedtime is impossible. She loves throwing things at me, and has a good aim particularly when she hits me with her branch. She bosses my cat and dog, she loves chasing my cat and is definitely a bun you don't mess with, especially as she's lost weight. I would've sent some photos but she won't stay still long enough and all I've got are blurry photos of her ears."

Chase (July 2006)

Born August 2005. He is a lion head with a black patch over one eye. He has weight issues so will need to be monitored in his new home. He has a gentle temperament.

Grumpy Flo (July 2006)

A sooty-fawn doe. Her age is unknown. Grumpy Flo was left with us because she was 'nasty' but hasn't so much as growled while here.

Latest News:

August 2006: "I'm Jasmine ... proud owner of miss Grumpy Flo. She hasn't been grumpy at all so I'm not sure where the previous owner got that from. Just to say she's very happy and quite mad. She has an inside run but will move to the field next week. My brother loves her and helped build the run, ramp and tunnel. He's now planning her outside run. Her favourite toy is a plastic flower pot which she head-butts and drags around. She has great fun jumping for treats."

Dylan (August 2006)

A lionhead that needs lots of grooming.

Latest News:

September 2006: "The baby lionhead bun we re-homed last week is settling well. He's now named Dylan but that might change once we get to know one another better. He's taken to indoor living well and enjoys leaping about the living room as well as sleeping beneath the TV. We'll send photos as soon as we can. Cat and Jaime."

Lola (September 2006)

A lionhead doe that needs lots of grooming. She's friendly and easy to look after. She now has a boyfriend called Mystic and the news is they're great friends.

Mayo (renamed Hubble) (September 2006)

A Netherland dwarf buck, born 2003, and ex-show and stud rabbit. He has no health problems.

During his time at the rescue. Hubble at his new home.

Latest News:

September 2006: "The family have fallen in love with Mayo. Lucy keeps asking if she's dreaming she's got a rabbit! We set him up in his hutch with his new bottle, hayrack and bowl. Can't wait to get him some toys but Lucy wants to pick them as she knows what he'll like."

December 2007: "I came to the rescue, September 2006, to choose between Oddball and Mayo. Must admit I was drawn more to Oddball but as I passed Mayo's hutch he sat on his hind legs, washing his face, and I fell for him instantly. I chose him for our daughter Lucy and she was over the moon when she saw him! She called him Hubble after the telescope and I must admit that it suits him! Hubble soon settled as a member of our family.

"Hubble is still with us despite a scare last Christmas when we thought he was going to pass away. He came 'round only by sleeping on our couch for three days with a water bottle, being fed pureed carrot baby food, and being lifted to the toilet. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with him but said it might have been a virus. We lived with his hutch in our hall until he was fully recovered. Hubble has been fine since and we are more than happy with him.

"He was on mixed food when he first came but was picky about which bits he ate. The vet recommended nuggets so we weaned him off the mix. He's now happy on nuggets plus his vegetables - carrots are his favourite!"

I would like to say a big thank you to you!

Donna and Lucy

EDITOR: And a big thank you from SWAR for keeping us in touch with lovely Hubble.

Malawi (November 2006)

A young black rat.

Latest News:

September 2006: "She's doing well. She went in with our other 3 girls and made friends quickly. They've helped to calm her down and she's become very sweet and loving. She sits on my lap at night while we watch the telly and lets me know when she wants to
play by gently nipping my toes! She loves cuddling up with her friends in the hammock."
